SigScribe4 is Interlocking Design Software specifically developed by MODRATEC to enable rail modellers to design the mechanical interlocking for their Lever Frames. It is available as a free download.

SigScribe4 version 1.1 is free.

Because SigScribe4 is primarily a tool for designing MODRATEC Lever Frame Kits, MODRATEC has decided to offer it free of charge to all. We do, however, require you to register your ownership of the product so that we can advise you of updates to SigScribe4. Please refer to the License Agreement for information about support for SigScribe4 users.

SigScribe4 comes with full documentation which includes both a simple and an advanced Tutorial to guide you through the design process. Any questions or difficulties can be posted on the 'Guest Lounge' forum for resolution. Email support is also available. If you are struggling with a design that you would like to turn into a working Lever Frame, please send us your SigScribe4 file (???.ss4) attached to an email and we will be happy to suggest a solution for you. Give as much detail as possible in your email about what you wish to achieve in your design.

For Macintosh Systems

SigScribe4 will run under OS X (OS 10).

For Windows Systems

To run SigScribe4 on a PC under Windows^® you need to have the Java^® Runtime Environment (JRE) installed on your computer. (Also known as the Java Virtual Machine - JVM.)

The minimum required version of JRE is 1.3.1 although 1.4.2 looks nicer and is recommended if your computer meets the necessary system requirements. Versions 1.5 and 1.6 are also available now.

A very simple process is available from Sun Microsystems^®, the creators of Java, to make sure that you have the latest compatible version of Java installed on your machine - visit this website http://java.com/en/index.jsp. The content of that page is dynamically generated to reflect the current Java status of your computer. Follow the links to download the right Java version for your machine. If you experience problems using that site, manual downloads are available here: http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp. Alternatively, if you wish to run the minimum version of Java, we have provided this download link for JRE 1.3.1 (Windows version).

If your computer can run the JRE, it can run SigScribe4. As an example, SigScribe4 runs successfully, albeit a little slowly, on a 100MHz PC with only 16M RAM - well below the minimum specified for JRE 1.3.1!
