Swing nose

Railway terminology varies from country to country, between model and reality, and even between different professions within the industry. This forum seeks to clarify such diversity.

Swing Nose

Post by dave55uk »

(refer to FROG and illustration thereof)

Swing nose is the FROG part of the point/switch/turnout which moves according to which way the point/switch/turnout are set to form a continuous rail - whereas in a non-swing type of point/switch/turnout there are gaps.

In the United States this would be referred to as a Movable Point Frog.
