Copper WIT vs Flexi WIT

Post by John Bushell »

Hi y'all,

I am wondering if anyone out there has used both types of WIT and can give me an opinion on the virtues of each.

My goods yard is in close proximity to where the lever frame will be and I am tending towards the flexible type. Reasons being ease of carrying it home on the aircraft (I live in Jakarta), ease of fitting and price.

Any comments or good reasons I should go for the annealed copper type?
Best regards,
John

John,

For short runs, Flex-wit is certainly suitable.

As to carrying on the plane, the copper tube is rolled as supplied and would be as easily transported.

Copper WIT vs Flexi WIT

Post by signalman »

Is there a maximum length of run for each of theses products?

Which is more suited to long runs?

Cheers,

Ian

We have tested flex-wit operating a turnout via 5m of tube. The run included a gentle 90-degree turn (approx 250mm radius) at the lever frame and a similar reflex turn at the turnout. It works perfectly well. There was no support for the tube other than at each end.

As a general principle, copper is likely to give better long-range performance that flex.

What is the minimum bending radius that Flex-wit can be curved to? In the WIT General pdf, a minimum radius of 75mm is mentioned for the copper tube. Is this the same for Flex-wit?

Cheers,

The recommendation is still 75mm, although, if the rest of the route is not complex, a single sharper bend will probably be workable.
