Conditional ("when") Interlocking

Post by Harold »

Because of interest in the MODRATEC Lever Frame by modellers of non-British pattern signalling schemes, some comments about Conditional Interlocking are in order. This particularly applies to "speed" signalling as opposed to "route" signalling.

It should be understood that the MODRATEC Lever Frame does not, at this stage of its development, support conditional interlocking as such. However, if the modeller's primary interest is in using a mechanical interlocking scheme to add operational safety and realism to their model railway, then the MODRATEC Lever Frame can still be the practical solution.

The concept is that you design your Lever Frame as a route signalling scheme - i.e. using SigScribe4, you provide each signal location with the number of routes that you wish to signal from that location. This can be done by using one arm or head per route, or using one arm/head combined with a route indicator of the required number. You also need to include one lever for each route. Thus you will end up with a Lever Frame which is actually a route signalling Frame.

But you can still use single arms or heads for the real signal locations on your model.

MODRATEC provides mechanical gates (Slot-wit) to operate particular arms when one of a number of levers is pulled. Or for colour light signals, it's not difficult to combine electrical outputs from the Auxiliary Switches to drive the required aspects.

Please add your thoughts by posting a reply.

As of version 1.1.11, SigScribe4 can handle conditional locking. Also, MODRATEC can supply frame that implement conditional locking.
