In all the UK signalboxes I've visited, the brown gate lock lever is BACK in the frame when the gates are LOCKED and OUT when UNLOCKED (contrary to point mentioned on MODRATEC website under Signalling Practices/Lever Frames. HTH.

In Australia, level crossing gates worked from a signal box were known as interlocked gates. There were two levers provided to do this, the gate lever, which was a rack under a gear assembly with a gate wheel attached, and a gate stop lever, which was the interface between the gate apparatus and the levers that controlled the signals applying to the crossing. The gate stop lever was black, and was next to the gate wheel. To lock the gates for rail traffic, it was normal in the frame. It was placed reverse, and the gate wheel turned six (or eight) revolutions to open the gates for road traffic. How's that for Oz?
