Electric Locking

Electric Locking
Is there any way of locking a lever electrically? For things like track curcuits, and the like?
MODRATEC plans to provide electrical locking at some future date. Design concepts are being refined and evaluated. However, that could be a year or more away.
It is conceivable that a small solenoid could be used to operate a vertical rod that can block/clear the forward motion of a tappet at the front of the locking bed. This is most easily arranged for lower (even-numbered) tappets, but can be used for upper (odd-numbered tappets) by bending the rod to clear the lower tappet. Ideally, the rod should be sprung so that it is normally up and blocking the tappet. The solenoid should pull the rod down in order to release the tappet. Solenoids tend to be best suited/designed for intermittent operation, hence, as with the real world, it is desirable to incorporate a push-button switch to temporarily energise the solenoid just while the lever pull is initiated.

We have decided on a workable/practical approach for electrical locking and are in the prototyping stage. There are knock-on implications regarding modification of the overall configuration of our lever frames. We would ideally like to be able to make electrical locking retro-fittable. We also need to finalise software modifications to facilitate electrical locking into SigScribe4 design - and our manufacturing software.
When?
We are aiming for April 2012.

Well, April has come and gone.
We have had to abandon our intended method of electrical locking. It was proving too difficult to produce at a manageable price.
So we are onto a new and innovative approach.
It will probably be some months before we have anything for sale, so please try to be patient. We do apologise for the inconvenience.
