Diamond crossing

Railway terminology varies from country to country, between model and reality, and even between different professions within the industry. This forum seeks to clarify such diversity.

DIAMOND Crossing

Post by dave55uk »

A diamond crossing is where two lines cross : see -

(please excuse the quick sketch)

A diamond crossing can also have one or two SLIPS
which then act as points, thus switching trains from
one set of rails to the other, see -

UK: A diamond crossing can be a fixed diamond (with no moving parts but a long rail gap at the obtuse crossing) or a switch diamond (which avoids the obtuse crossing but has moving parts). Either type may have one or two slips.
